Band
History
The
Eddy
Band lived a short life in Dallas, Texas in the mid 90s. The members
all led "real world" lives and also played in a variety of other bands
at the same time. But they came together to play the Eddy music as
often as possible to a loyal but tiny audience. A number of folks moved
in and out of the lineup over time, and some members played one or two
gigs and then never were heard from again. The band made one CD
together in 1995, the hard to find (but easy to love) "Bad in my Car."
A few of them even joined frontman Bob Hate on his 2 solo CDs, made
after the band had stopped playing live.
But
then came the break. Some members left Texas altogether, never to
return. Some got married, most had kids. Everyone worked a day gig,
and, for most, music became something they "used to do."
But the Eddy
Band lives again. Starting at the end of 2007, Stephen, Chet and Bob
began writing again, and in each of the past two summers the fellas
took these new songs into a studio in Nashville to work on a new CD
called "Reckoning Time," which should be available by October 2009.

Trivia
- Bob
and Chet played on stage for the first time in Hattiesburg MS in 1986.
They did "All Along the Watchtower."
- There
is an actual Bob Hate song called "Eddy."
- The
Eddy Band's original name was "Blue Hotel," and
they played in Dallas in 1987-1988.
- Very
early on, Chet moved to Texas and replaced the
original Blue Hotel bass player, a dental student who owned a $5000 amp.
- The
first time The Eddy Band played under that name
was September 1993.
- The
first Eddy drummer ran a vending route. We don't
know where he is, but he was a good guy.
- Stephen
first played with Bob and Chet in "Nod," a
band fronted by 2 girl singers.
- Dave's
first gig with Eddy was in January of 1994 at
Trees, a gig that featured 2 other members who never played with the
band again.
- Bob,
Chet & Stephen played together in "King
Hell," the first of their numerous bad cover bands. During the mid
1990s, everyone pictured above served sentences in these bands.
- Dave
and Chet's last Eddy gig was September 1995.
- During
1995, the fellas recorded the only Eddy Band
CD, "Bad in My Car."
- Chet
left to play bass in Cricket Taylor's band, and
Bob joined Stephen's original band "True Story" on bass.
- After
Bob quit "True Story," Buck replaced him. That son-of-a-bitch.
- Dave moved to Nashville. That son-of-a-bitch.
- In
June of 1996, Buck and a new drummer joined Bob and
Stephen in the new Eddy band. Bob and Buck ended up playing tons of bad
cover gigs in the late 90s.
- On
December 20, 1996, Eddy played its final show, a
Saturday night at Club Dada. Chet drove in from Mississippi to play
bass
and sing on the Eddy classic, "Shreveport."
- In
2008, they reunited in Nashville to their first recording in a dozen
years. They discovered that only Chet had remained the same weight, and
only Bob was still handsome.
- The 2009 reunion allowed them to work out all
of their "minor key gravitas" and nurse several beverages on the patio
of the Aloft Hotel.
